Andy Murray lost to Roman Safiullin in the first round of the Shanghai Masters, another early exit in the Chinese hard-court swing.

Safiullin defeated former world number one Murray 6-3, 6-2 in a dominant performance.

Italy’s Jannik Sinner won the ATP title at the China Open by defeating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in Beijing.

Medvedev had won all six of their previous matches, but Sinner defeated Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz 7-6, 7-6 in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

With his third title of the season, Sinner will reach a career high of fourth in the world.
